Noam Cook is Professor Emeritus of Philosophy at San Jose State University (SJSU). He holds a PhD from MIT (where he worked closely with Sir Geoffrey Vickers, Edgar Schein, and Donald Schön, among others), and BA and MA degrees from San Francisco State University.His interests lie at the intersection of traditional areas of philosophy with current applied issues, as reflected in his publications, research and consulting. He has worked on learning and change in social and technological systems; the interdependence of natural, artefactual, and human systems; the generative interaction of knowledge and practice, and the nature of know-how; and, social, professional, and environmental ethics. Following his doctoral work, he spent two years on the research staff of Harvard Business School working in the area of business ethics. He then returned to the Bay Area to join the philosophy faculty at SJSU in the heart of Silicon Valley. While at SJSU, he was also for ten years a consulting researcher at Xerox PARC (Palo Alto Research Centre). Since 1997 he has been a member of the San Francisco Symphony Chorus.
